All Saints Day
from the website of the Presbyterian Church (USA)
“All Saints’ Day is a time to rejoice in all who through the ages have faithfully served the Lord. The day reminds us that we are part of one continuing, living communion of saints. It is a time to claim our kinship with the glorious company of the apostles . . . the noble fellowship of prophets . . . the white-robed army of martyrs. It is a time to express our gratitude for all who in ages of darkness kept the faith, for those who have taken the gospel to the ends of the earth, for prophetic voices who have called the church to be faithful in life and service, for all who have witnessed to God’s justice and peace in every nation.” Reminded that God was with the faithful of the past, we are reassured that God is with us today, moving us and all creation toward God’s end in time. In this context, it is appropriate for a congregation on All Saints’ Day to commemorate the lives of those who died during the previous year.”
Gathering in God’s Name
Prelude — How Great Thou Art — Robert Hobby
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.
Silent Meditation
Jesus comes not for the super-spiritual but for the wobbly and the weak-kneed who know they don’t have it all together, and who are not too proud to accept the handout of amazing grace. — Brennan Manning
Call to Worship
The changing colors of leaves, the laughter of children playing dress-up, the flowers and trees that become food for foraging creatures:
Lord, your creation boasts of your goodness.
The Sunday school teachers who taught us your Word, the stranger who asked us if we were okay, the parent who showed us right and wrong, the neighbor who dropped by to say hello:
Lord, your creation boasts of your love.
Let us join together as a community and worship our Creator, the author of everything that is beautiful
Praise and Adoration

Call to Confession
Prayer of Confession
Holy and gracious God, you are the author of every good thing. Forgive us for the ways we fall short of the beautiful story you invite us to step into. You ask us to look to the margins and care for the lost; we center ourselves. You ask us to give away; we grab for more. You ask us to love one another; we cannot see beyond our divisions. The world is full of ugliness, from the macro to the micro. Forgive us, and help us. We call on you, our help, our God, our hope. Hear our silent confessions now…

Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Our Response to God’s Word
*Affirmation of Faith — from A Brief Statement of Faith, 1991
In a broken and fearful world, the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!” With believers in every time and place, we rejoice that nothing in life or in death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
*Sanctus (#562) — Holy, Holy, Holy SANCTUS (Schubert)
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full, full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest, hosanna in the highest.

*Responsive Prayer of Dedication
Creator of all, the earth is yours, the world and all who live in it.
You have entrusted us with gifts – time, talent, energy, money – and asked us to use them to build your kingdom. With thanks and praise, we respond to your call.
We bring these gifts you have given, returning your generosity, paying it forward.
We offer ourselves, our lives, our hopes and fears, our dollars and our hours. We commit ourselves to work for your world, to love and serve wherever you call.
We ask your blessing on this, your church, as we seek to follow you with heart, mind, and soul.
Bless these gifts, our investment in your future, that they may multiply in faith, hope, and love. Bless our lives, as we joyfully participate in your kingdom’s work. Amen.
