CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious Lord, we come in prayer today aware that your Son came to us that we might be free from sin. Yet we are uncertain what this means, and we are unsure of Jesus’ role in our lives. Instead of trusting your grace, we live in fear. We fear not being good enough. We fear for tomorrow. We fear being alone. Forgive us and remind us that you sent Jesus to us that we might live in the assurance of God’s love.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

RESPONSE
“Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow” LASST UNS ERFREUEN

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Praise God, all creatures high and low.
Alleluia, alleluia! Praise God, in Jesus fully known; Creator, Word, and Spirit one.

COMMUNION ANTHEM
“When I Survey the Wondrous Cross“ by Gilbert M. Martin

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
We thank you, O God, that through Word and sacrament you have given us your Son, who is the true bread from heaven and food of eternal life. So strengthen us in your service that our daily living may show our thanks, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

HYMN OF DEDICATION
“Take Up Your Cross, the Savior Said” BOURBON

Take up your cross, the Savior said, if you would my disciple be; take up your cross with willing heart, and humbly follow after me.

Take up your cross; let not its weight fill your weak spirit with alarm; Christ’s strength shall bear your spirit up and brace your heart  and nerve your arm.

Take up your cross;  heed not the shame, and let your foolish pride be still; the Lord for you accepted death upon a cross, on Calvary’s hill.

Take up your cross, then,  in Christ’s strength, and calmly every danger brave: it guides you to abundant life and leads to victory o’er the grave.
