GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME
“Guide Me Ever, Great Redeemer” Dale Wood
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.
“The pattern for many leaders is to be exalted in life and forgotten after death. The pattern for all who serve God—famous or obscure, respected or ignored—is that death is the door to glory.”
“People of loving service are rare in any walk of life. Leaders of loving service are still rarer. But in all cases those who serve will be loved and remembered when those who cling to power and privileges are forgotten.”
Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, in his funeral sermon for Queen Elizabeth II

CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you call us to fight the good fight of the faith and to take hold of the eternal life. Yet, we fail to do this. Instead, we focus our hearts on things that are harmful. We find ourselves drawn to media sources that degrade others. We listen to voices that feed on fear and division We forget about those who are most in need. Forgive us God. Help us build up the body of Christ by living into our role as your disciples bringing love and hope to those we encounter.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
from A Brief Statement of Faith (1991)
We trust in Jesus Christ, fully human, fully God. Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raised Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from death to life eternal.
