Volunteers Needed?

Yes, we need volunteers to fill food bags at Thanksgiving and weekly food bags this summer. Watch for upcoming volunteer opportunities in your weekly email from church!

Completely Kids recognized early on that to enrich the lives of children, they also needed to provide services to strengthen the family around them. They were among the first to realize food insecurity for children in the Omaha area, with the striking fact that when kids are not in school, this insecurity is most dire. They also recognized the need to provide mental health services to kids and their families to help them cope with the stresses in their lives.

In all, Completely Kids serves more than 2,000 kids and their families through a variety of programs and services that focus on five key areas:

  • Youth Programming
  • Teen Employment
  • Family Support
  • Food Initiatives
  • Mental Health Services

Their goal is to round out the growth and development of children so that they may lead fulfilled and productive lives in our community. These critical services are provided after school and all summer long. They partner with several local schools and several community-based organizations, including homeless shelters to provide a variety of needed programs.

For many years, PCOC has partnered with Completely Kids by filling food bags every Thanksgiving. PCOC also will volunteer at Completely Kids to fill and hand out weekly food bags during the year.

2023 Thanksgiving Baskets

PCOC provided 90 Thanksgiving bags to families in need through our mission partner Completely Kids. This year’s confirmation class and their parents assembled the bags at PCOC, and Completely Kids distributed them at their site on November 22. Each bag included canned corn, turkey gravy, stuffing, rolls, mashed potatoes, a 4 lb. bag of sugar for baking, and a $20 gift card to Hy-Vee for use towards meat or other grocery items for a Thanksgiving meal. Thank you for your generosity in supporting the special Thanksgiving offering each year that makes this mission effort possible.

2023 Volunteer Day

On June 21, 14 volunteers from PCOC, including 5 from our YA mission group (pictured below), stuffed 300 summer food bags and handed them out to families in need at the Completely Kids facility.

2022 Kids Helping Kids at Thanksgiving

Each November, Church of the Cross uses the previous year’s Thanksgiving offering and part of the Christmas offering to provide Thanksgiving meals for needy families. We work through our mission partner Completely Kids at 2566 St. Mary’s Avenue. This year, members of the Confirmation class, Confirmation mentors, and their families filled bags with corn, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, sugar, and a $20 Hy-Vee gift card to purchase meat. Our efforts helped 70 families who are struggling this holiday season. It was a great evening for our PCOC kids to learn about one of our mission partners and help other kids in Omaha.
