All Saints Day
from the website of the Presbyterian Church (USA)

“All Saints’ Day is a time to rejoice in all who through the ages have faithfully served the Lord. The day reminds us that we are part of one continuing, living communion of saints. It is a time to claim our kinship with the glorious company of the apostles . . . the noble fellowship of prophets . . . the white-robed army of martyrs. It is a time to express our gratitude for all who in ages of darkness kept the faith, for those who have taken the gospel to the ends of the earth, for prophetic voices who have called the church to be faithful in life and service, for all who have witnessed to God’s justice and peace in every nation.” Reminded that God was with the faithful of the past, we are reassured that God is with us today, moving us and all creation toward God’s end in time. In this context, it is appropriate for a congregation on All Saints’ Day to commemorate the lives of those who died during the previous year.”

Gathering in God’s Name

Prelude — How Great Thou Art — Robert Hobby
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.

Silent Meditation
Jesus comes not for the super-spiritual but for the wobbly and the weak-kneed who know they don’t have it all together, and who are not too proud to accept the handout of amazing grace.
— Brennan Manning

Call to Worship
God of the past, who has created and nurtured us, we are here to thank you.
God of the future, who is always ahead of us, we are here to thank you.
God of the present, who is here in the midst of us, we are here to thank you.
God of life, who is beyond us and within us, we rejoice in your glorious love!

Praise and Adoration

*Opening Hymn #326 — For All the Saints — SINE NOMINE
(*Please stand, if you are able.) (11:10 ONLY: Choir sings vs. 3)

Call to Confession

Prayer of Confession
Faithful God, you have given us a rich and godly heritage, through the sure testimony and holy example of our mothers and fathers in the faith.  But we let the light of our faith grow dim; we stray from the paths they commend to us. Forgive us, and renew us by your Holy Spirit.  Fan in us a new and brighter flame of faith, that, like those who have gone before us, our words and deeds would mightily declare the good news of salvation, given to all in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Silent Prayers of Confession and Petition

Kyrie Eleison — Lord, Have Mercy — Schubert

Assurance of Pardon

*Congregational Response (#581) — Glory Be to the Father — GLORIA PATRI (Greatorex)

Prayers of the People
The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Our Response to God’s Word

*Affirmation of Faith — from A Brief Statement of Faith, 1991
In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve. We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church.  In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, even as we watch for God’s new heaven and new earth, praying, “Come, Lord Jesus!”

*Sanctus (#562) — Holy, Holy, Holy — SANCTUS (Schubert)

Presentation of Tithes and Offerings

Offertory — ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus   arr. Peter Hilliard
The Eternal Gates (11:10) — Howard Helvey

*Doxology (#607) — Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD HUNDREDTH
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Christ, all people here below; praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore. Amen.

*Dedication of All the 2027 Pledges
We pause to look to 2027 and ask God’s blessing as we plan for the future.  If you haven’t already returned your 2027 commitment card, you may drop it in the offering plate today or mail it to the church office asap!

*Responsive Prayer of Dedication
Creator of all, the earth is yours, the world and all who live in it.
You have entrusted us with gifts – time, talent, energy, money – and asked us to use them to build your kingdom.  With thanks and praise, we respond to your call.
We bring these gifts you have given, returning your generosity, paying it forward.
We offer ourselves, our lives, our hopes and fears, our dollars and our hours.  We commit ourselves to work for your world, to love and serve wherever you call.
We ask your blessing on this, your church, as we seek to follow you with heart, mind, and soul.
Bless these gifts, our investment in your future, that they may multiply in faith, hope, and love.  Bless our lives, as we joyfully participate in your kingdom’s work.  Amen.

*Hymn of Dedication #394 — Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation — REGENT SQUARE
(sung to the tune of “Angels from the Realms of Glory”)
