GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

PRELUDE
“We All Believe in One God, Creator” J.S. Bach
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.

SILENT MEDITATION
Thinking about last week’s mid-term elections:
“The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.” – 1 Timothy 2: 1–3, from The Message

CALL TO WORSHIP (responsive) from Isaiah 12
The prophet Isaiah said, “You will say in that day: I will give thanks to you, O LORD, for though you were angry with me, your anger turned away, and you comforted me.
Surely God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid, for the LORD GOD is my strength and my might; he has become my salvation. With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
And you will say in that day: Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known his deeds among the nations; proclaim that his name is exalted.
Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously; let this be known in all the earth. Shout aloud and sing for joy, O royal Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, You call us to be disciples, to carry out your work here on earth bringing hope and peace to others. Yet we confess that we are often idle and instead are merely busybodies who fail to do your work. Forgive us and help us live our lives as resurrection people filled with your grace and love. God hear us as we pray silently for sins that weigh heavily on our hearts.

INVITATION TO THE LORD’S TABLE
From north and south, from east and west, we come:
God’s people, called to the Table where simple grace nourishes us.
From down the street, and across our city, to around the world, today we are invited to a joyful feast, hosted by the Lord Jesus Christ.
God’s people are called to community, where we live and serve one another.
From every class, every race, every status; from little ones, to youth and parents, to elders with overflowing hearts:
God’s people are called to witness to God’s hope, to offer peace to a shattered world.
