GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

PRELUDE
“Interlude” Christopher Uehlein

As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.

SILENT MEDITATION

“We need to give Christ a chance to make use of us, to be His word and His work, to share His food and His clothing in the world today. If we do not radiate the light of Christ around us, the sense of the darkness that prevails in the world will increase.” Mother Teresa

CALL TO WORSHIP
from Psalm 42
As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God? These things I remember as I pour out my soul:
how I went with the throng, and led them in procession to the house of God, with glad shouts of thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival.
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God!

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious God, forgive us for taking our eyes off Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. When the storms of life swirl around us, we forget your unfailing goodness and power to save us. When we hear Jesus say, “Come,” we make excuses about why it is too hard to follow him, especially when the way seems dangerous and challenging. Forgive our sins, Lord, and help us to step out in faith. Be merciful to us when we cry out, “We believe; help our unbelief!” Hear us now, as we offer to you our silent prayers…

from The Heidelberg Catechism
Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I belong – body and soul, in life and in death – not to myself but to my faithful Savior, Jesus Christ, who at the cost of his own blood has fully paid for all my sins and has completely freed me from the dominion of the devil; that he protects me so well that without the will of my Father in heaven not a hair can fall from my head; indeed, that everything must fit his purpose for my salvation. Therefore, by his Holy Spirit, he also assures me of eternal life, and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for Him.
