OUR MISSION EFFORTS

Calvin Crest is in constant need to updating and repair and Presbyterian Church of the Cross Mission Committee plans regular work trips to camp Calvin Crest to assist. We typically complete a wide range of projects that help keep the camp going. In the past, we have hung drywall, painted rooms, repaired quilts, rewired and hung lighting, and most recently cut railroad ties and rebuilt a major retaining wall. Announcements are made in the fall and spring regarding when work trips are scheduled. If you are interested in learning more or in signing up for upcoming work trips, contact the program coordinator.

Project sponsored by the Mission Committee and Presbyterian Men

Several Presbyterian Men volunteered at Camp Calvin Crest on August 26 to finish the composite decking for the shelter next to the pool we started last year. They were Gary Lippstreu, Larry Frederickson, Jim Conway, Frank McMullen, and Jon Boomgaarden. We worked with Bob Tokorny, the maintenance man, and his sidekick Tad. Later we ate lunch together with staff: Bob, Tad, Executive Director, Craig Huffman, and Bookkeeper/Registrar, Nancy Rix. Thank you volunteers for your contribution; you made the camp better by serving in mission!

2021 Camp Calvin Crest Mission Work Project

Submitted by Coordinator, Jon Boomgaarden
Project sponsored by the Mission Committee and Presbyterian Men

Camp Calvin Crest is a Presbyterian camp southwest of Fremont that serves thousands of youth and adults every year by providing quality Christian programs. Before the camp opens for the season, they want a picnic shelter built next to the swimming pool and accessible from the dining hall. On Friday, May 7, our PCOC volunteers began the work of installing the long posts to support this shelter.  Our “Spirit of Mission” volunteers were Mike Howland, Matt Will, Frank McMullen, and Jon Boomgaarden (notice them decked out in their PCOC Mission t-shirts).

The group started the day with donuts and coffee, and then they got organized and busy installing the 14 and 18 foot posts. They were assisted by Bob Tokorny, the camp maintenance man, who had prepared sixteen holes 18” wide x 42” deep with a power auger before the group arrived. He had the posts, supplies, and tools ready to go for the volunteers, too. At midday, the group enjoyed a sack lunch outside the dining hall. By the end of the day. our small but mighty group had installed 10 posts.  The camp executive director, Craig Huffman, really appreciated PCOC’s service to the camp.

Thank you volunteers for your contribution; you made the camp better by serving in mission!
