GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

PRELUDE — Sanctify Us by Thy Goodness — J.S. Bach
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.

SILENT MEDITATION
“Christians don’t simply learn or study or use Scripture; we assimilate it, take it into our lives in such a way that it gets metabolized into acts of love, cups of cold water, mission into all the world, healing and evangelism and justice in Jesus’ name.” — Eugene Peterson

CALL TO WORSHIP from Psalm 145:10-18
All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
and all your faithful shall bless you.
The Lord upholds all who are falling
and raises up all who are bowed down.
You open your hand,
satisfying the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is just and kind,
The Lord is near to all who call on God.

PRAISE AND ADORATION

CONFESSION AND PARDON

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, you have commanded us to love you above all and to have no other gods. You have called us to love others as you love them. But we are personally and socially prejudiced by the love of other “gods” — the false gods of prosperity and materialism, of racial and ethnic privilege, and of excessive triumphalism.  Forgive us our sins and transform us by your Spirit that we might learn to love as you love and to live as people who have been baptized as your own children.  Amen.

SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION AND PETITION

KYRIE ELEISON (#551) — “Lord, Have Mercy” — LAND OF REST

Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy upon us.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH — The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

*SANCTUS (#572) — “Holy, Holy, Holy” — SANCTUS (Pavlechko)

alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION
O God, may these gifts be used as a witness to your love, peace and justice at work in the world, renewing the face of the earth.  May our lives be used in a similar way – to bring about your kingdom, on earth as it is in heaven.  Amen.
