GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

PRELUDE
“Fantasia” DuMage
(17th-18th c. French)
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.

SILENT MEDITATION
“Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours; yours are the eyes through which Christ’s compassion looks out on the world, yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good and yours are the hands with which He is to bless us now.” Teresa of Avila

“We do not draw people to Christ by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it.” Madeleine L’Engle

CALL TO WORSHIP – PSALM 13:5–6 ADAPTED
We trust in your steadfast love, O Lord.
Help us to trust you, in times of joy and times of challenge.
Our hearts rejoice in your salvation.
We lift up our hearts. We cling to your grace.
Sing to the Lord because God has been good to us.
We sing to you, O God. We join together to sing your praise.
Let us worship God together.

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Merciful God, we confess that we have not followed your way. You lavish your love upon us, yet we let our hearts grow cold. You wash us clean in your mercy, yet we defile ourselves in sin. Forgive us, God of grace. Give us a new religion: to love you and one another even as you have loved us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH from the PC(USA) Declaration of Faith

Jesus Christ stands at the center of the biblical record. The Bible is the account of God’s word and action in history, together with his people’s response in faith. It tells how the Lord has moved with Israel and the church towards the kingdom of God, his just and loving rule over all. It is the story of the one God, who is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That story is still unfolding, and in faith, we make it our own. It forms our memory and our hope. It tells us who we are and what we are to do. To retell it is to declare what we believe.
