GATHERING IN GOD’S NAME

PRELUDE — Be Thou My Vision — arr. Andrew Wainwright
As the prelude begins, you are invited to begin your personal preparation for worship.

SILENT MEDITATION
The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live. — 1 Timothy 2: 1–3, The Message

 CALL TO WORSHIP — based on Deuteronomy 6:4-5 and Leviticus 19:18
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
       And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.”
Hear, O Church of God: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone.
       And we shall love the Lord our God with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our might.
Hear, O children of God: there is another commandment like the first.
       Yes: we shall love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
These two commandments are the foundation of our Christian lives.
       Thanks be to God! Let us worship God!

CONFESSION AND PARDON

CALL TO CONFESSION

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison)
Generous and forgiving God, we join our hearts and voices to confess to you.  You offer us forgiveness, yet we withhold it from others, choosing instead to hold onto grudges and unhelpful feelings.  You offer us hope and new life for the future, yet we refuse to receive it, as we stay mired in the past.  You invite us to a kingdom of never-ending love, yet we try to put boundaries on your care and impose barricades to your grace.  Forgive us, O Lord, we pray, and renew our hearts, strengthen our faith and anoint us with your Holy Spirit.

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH — Heidelberg Catechism, Q & A 86
Because just as Christ has redeemed us with his blood, he also renews us through his Holy Spirit according to his own image, so that with our whole life we may show ourselves grateful to God for his goodness, and that he may be glorified through us; and further, so that we ourselves may be assured of our faith by its fruits, and by our reverent behavior win our neighbors to Christ.

PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS

OFFERTORY — Share My Yolk — J. Web, arr. Ivor Bosanko — Flugel Horn Soloist Sadie Uhing
When I’m tired and nothing’s going right for me,
When things I’ve counted on
Just do not come my way,
When in my mind the
Thick grey folds of doubt arise,
It’s then I seem to hear Him say:

“Share My yoke and find that I am joined with you;
Your slightest movement I shall feel and be there too!
Share My yoke and come the way that I must go!
In our ‘togetherness’ My peace you’ll know;
The world beholding us will see it so!”

When I’m alone
And nothing’s getting through to me –
An isolation that increases day by day,
When closest friends can seem
A thousand miles away,
It’s then I long to hear Him say:

“Share My yoke and find that I am joined with you;
Your slightest movement I shall feel and be there too!
Share My yoke and come the way that I must go!
In our ‘togetherness’ My peace you’ll know;
The world beholding us will see it so!”

*DOXOLOGY (#607) — Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD HUNDREDTH — L.T. Bourgeois, arr. Alan Fernie
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Praise Christ, all people here below;
praise Holy Spirit evermore; praise Triune God, whom we adore.  Amen.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION
Holy God, these offerings are only a portion of all that you have given us. We gratefully present these gifts and entrust them to your work in this world. May our gifts share the Good News of the gospel to those who are in need. May these gifts help unburden those with the heaviest of loads. Amen.
