There are two things on which all interpretation of scripture depends: the process of discovering what we need to learn, and the process of presenting what we have learnt. — Augustine

CONFESSION AND PARDON
CALL TO CONFESSION
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Gracious and Loving God, we come before you in meekness and humility. We confess that we do not always serve you as we should. We confess that we have often asked you to serve us instead. We ask for physical things, positions of power. Yet You have already given us love, and grace, and hope: your mercies make a way for us where there is no way. You are faithful to us again and again. Forgive us, O Lord. Help us to be a vehicle for your grace. Help us to be your hands and feet. Help us to yearn for a life that reflects your will. Help us to be ready to live it out. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S WORD
*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH — Adapted from The Confession of 1967
We believe that to be reconciled to God is to be sent into the world as his reconciling community. This community, the church universal, is entrusted with God’s message of reconciliation and shares his labor of healing the enmities which separate humankind from God and each other. Christ has called the church to this mission and given it the gift of the Holy Spirit. By and through these things, we believe that the church maintains a continuity with the apostles and with Israel by faithful obedience to this call.
